Mixte's are the flavour of the day and the Rewindcycle crew have just finished yet another of these multi-purpose beauties. The frame was picked up on eBay for a cool thirty bucks from Adrian the hard waste collector then bead blasted and powder coated in Dulux lemon yellow with the handlebars an stem finished in white. Cable guides had to be attached to the frame for the rear brake cable to run through prior to powder coating for a nicer finish than using cable ties. After a couple of trips to Abbotsford Cycles and Marcus' parts warehouse the below parts were put together for the build:
- Lasco Original cranks and 44T chainring powder coated in white
- Origin 8 pedals in white
- Weinmann DP18 32h Track wheels with Origin8 Hubs
- 18T Shimano MX Freewheel
- Silver KMC Z410 Chain
- 700c Ritchey Rim Strips
- 48mm PV Bontrager tubes
- Vittoria Zaffira 700x28c tyres
- Oury grips in yellow
- Tektro R556 brakes
- Snafu levers in white and silver
- KAlloy seat post in silver
The build was relatively straight forward with only two modifications to the frame. The axle on the Weinmanns wouldn't fit the fork at first but with the help of high speed Dremel I removed less that half a millimetre from the inside of the dropout given the axles a nice snug fit. The forks also had to be stretched around 5mm a side to accomodate the larger diameter hub.
The bike is super smooth to ride and looks awesome as well. The only thing that needs improvement according to the wife is the saddle which was bought for comfort although will now will be replaced with something a bit racier and probably in white.
Enjoy!
